It's been theorized that dreams have the purpose of presenting us with "what-if" scenarios.
It is in these scenarios that our brain shows us the reaction we would have or rather should. If this theory holds any weight, than my most recent dream has then peaked my interest.
Someone who I respect was doing an illegal activity and was using his position to benefit this purpose. Sure I would go along, he handed my an item that he was smuggling, expecting me to load it. I refused. Instead I loosened the lid and simply poured it out on the ground. Walking away I heard his footsteps; yet my stride remained unbroken.
Despite his verbal berating, calling me a fool, an idiot, and assuring me I'd amount to nothing, I stood by my actions. What then can I learn from this situation?
- While it is easy to disregard someone who is in the wrong, difficulty arises when respect is present
- Stand for your beliefs despite what those around you are doing, even if someone of power assures you are doing the wrong thing
- How would you handle someone of respectable status disagreeing with your views?
I remember feeling forgiveness, I was not in disbelief even though his actions were unexpected. There was no hate, no confusion, simply nothing.
Maybe the message was to just forgive and forget. And if this dream arose because of a situation I was involved in today - it would mean I need to forget and forgive myself.
